Squirt / 10U Hockey

Building skills, hockey awareness, and confidence.

PYH's Squirt / 10U program builds on the fundamentals developed at Mite while helping players improve individual skills, game awareness, teamwork, and decision-making.

About the Program

Continuing the Development Journey

Squirt / 10U is an important stage in a young player's hockey development. Players continue refining skating and puck skills while developing a greater understanding of positioning, teamwork, and game situations.

As players gain experience, they begin applying their skills in more complex game situations. Practices continue emphasizing meaningful repetition, active participation, and age-appropriate challenges.

Our goal is to develop confident, well-rounded hockey players who enjoy competing, supporting teammates, and continuing to learn the game.

Age Eligibility: Squirt / 10U is intended for players within the applicable 10U age classification. Birth-year eligibility is determined by current-season hockey association guidelines. Families with placement questions should contact PYH.

Our Development Philosophy

USA Hockey's American Development Model

USA Hockey's American Development Model (ADM) identifies the 10U years as an important period for developing coordination, hockey fundamentals, and athletic confidence. PYH's development-first approach reflects many of these principles.

Golden Age of Skill Development

The 10U years are an excellent time to refine skating, puck handling, passing, shooting, agility, balance, and coordination. Repetition and practice remain essential.

Quality Practice & Repetition

Active practices with frequent puck touches, purposeful repetition, and progressively challenging activities help players build confidence and improve their technical skills.

Developing Hockey IQ

Small-area games and game-like activities help players recognize situations, make decisions, find open space, support teammates, and solve problems during play.

Building Well-Rounded Athletes

USA Hockey encourages participation in multiple sports and age-appropriate activities. Developing general athleticism, confidence, and enjoyment supports long-term hockey development.
