Advanced Skills. Smart Decisions. Responsible Competition.
Bantam hockey builds on the foundation developed at Peewee / 12U. Players refine their individual skills while adapting to faster game play, greater physical demands, advanced team concepts, and increased responsibility.
About the Program
At Bantam / 14U, players continue improving their skating, puck control, passing, shooting, and decision-making while developing a stronger understanding of team systems and positional play.
Practices combine individual skill development with advanced tactical situations, game-speed execution, and appropriate competitive challenges. Players are also encouraged to take greater responsibility for their preparation, effort, communication, and improvement.
Player Development

USA Hockey's American Development Model (ADM) identifies 14U as an important stage of athletic growth. PYH encourages purposeful practice, appropriate challenges, and well-rounded athletic development as players mature.

Bantam players face more challenging competition and growing expectations for responsibility, discipline, and teamwork.
Coaches combine individual skill development with team concepts, tactical instruction, positional responsibilities, and game-like situations. Players are encouraged to practice with purpose and continue developing their fundamentals.
Organized league competition challenges players to execute skills under pressure, make decisions at game speed, communicate effectively, and compete with confidence and sportsmanship.
Team placement may consider player evaluations, development, roster availability, and appropriate competitive placement for the season.
Tryouts & Evaluations →Bantam players are expected to take greater ownership of their preparation, effort, decisions, and conduct. Respect for teammates, coaches, officials, and opponents remains an important part of the PYH experience.
Bantam hockey introduces greater speed and physical demands. USA Hockey permits legal body checking in designated 14U youth checking classifications. However, some leagues and competitions may require non-checking play.
Regardless of the competition format, players must develop proper angling, body positioning, balance, contact awareness, and safe techniques for competing for puck possession. Dangerous contact, checking from behind, illegal head contact, and other prohibited actions are not acceptable. Applicable USA Hockey, Massachusetts Hockey, and league rules govern play.
