The December 31 CEP clinic deadline does not extend these earlier participation requirements. Coaches are responsible for verifying their eligibility through the USA Hockey Learning Center.

Frequently Asked Questions

Coaches & Volunteers FAQ

Answers to common questions about registration, certification, safety training, and volunteer eligibility.

Does everyone need to register with USA Hockey?

Yes. PYH requires its coaches, team managers, and volunteers to maintain the appropriate USA Hockey registration for the 2026–2027 season.

Additional training and screening requirements depend on each person's responsibilities.

Do I need to register with USA Hockey every season?

Yes. USA Hockey membership is renewed annually. Coaches and volunteers must obtain the appropriate current-season membership confirmation number.

Do team managers need coaching certification?

No. Team managers serving only in off-ice administrative roles do not need to complete coaching education clinics or age-specific coaching modules.

They must still complete the applicable USA Hockey registration, SafeSport training, and background screening requirements.

Can LTS/LTP volunteers help on the ice?

Yes, if they are properly registered, qualified, and authorized by PYH to provide on-ice instruction.

Volunteer registration alone does not authorize someone to coach. All authorized on-ice coaches and assistants must wear a helmet.

Is SafeSport training required every season?

Individuals required to complete SafeSport training must keep it current. Returning participants generally complete the applicable refresher, while first-time participants complete Core Training.

USA Hockey SafeSport training is generally valid for 12 months.

Do I need to repeat my age-specific coaching module?

Age-specific modules generally need to be completed only once for each age classification.

Coaches moving to another age division may need additional education. Review your USA Hockey Learning Center profile for current requirements.

What happens if I miss the December 31 deadline?

Coaches who do not satisfy applicable CEP clinic requirements by December 31, 2026, may be ineligible to coach beginning January 1, under USA Hockey rules.

USA Hockey's certification rules provide for ineligibility for the remainder of the season when required certification has not been obtained.

Coaches should confirm their certification status and complete any outstanding requirements well before the deadline.

Where do I submit my completed requirements?

Email your certificates or USA Hockey dashboard showing completed requirements to tannershockey01960@gmail.com.

You may also contact PYH if you need help determining which requirements apply to your role.
